The Irish have always been renowned storytellers. From myths and legends passed down over the centuries ó ghluín go gluín to ‘Dracula’ and ‘Gulliver’s Travels’, expressions of the Irish imagination have chilled and thrilled generations of people worldwide. The bedrock of this talent for literature is a rich tradition of oral storytelling. A scéalaí from the west of Ireland, Niall de Búrca is immersed in this tradition and adds new tales to it. He has performed all over the world in countries as diverse as Norway, Argentina and Thailand, at the EU Parliament in Brussels, at Áras an Uachtaráin, the Irish President’s residence, and regularly at the National Museum of Ireland. One of his most evocative appearances was at Roskilde Viking Ship Museum in Denmark onboard the Sea Stallion – an exact replica of a dragon ship built in Dublin 1000 years ago.
Hugely popular for his tremendous energy and incredible range of stories, de Búrca is more dangerous than the pied piper… he casts a spell on young and old alike!
