Celebrated American textile artist Sheila Hicks will be in conversation with renowned curator, author, and artist Robert Storr.
Sheila Hicks
Sheila Hicks has exhibited internationally in both solo and group exhibitions. She was included in the 2017 Venice Biennale, 2014 Whitney Biennial in New York, 2012 São Paulo Biennial in Brazil. Recent solo presentations include "Lignes de Vie" at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and a major retrospective "Sheila Hicks: 50 Years at the Addison Gallery of American Art." Hicks's work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and MoMA, New York City; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Art Institute of Chicago; the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; Museo de Bellas Artes, Santiago, among others; her solo exhibitions include the Seoul Art Center and Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Among her honors: French Academy of Architecture Silver Medal, Textile Museum (Washington, D.C.), 25 Year Honoree, Smithsonian Institution's Lifetime Achievement Award, École des Beaux-Arts Honorary Doctorate, Yale University Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts, Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award, and in France, Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
Robert Storr
Artist, critic, and curator., Robert Storr is one of the most influential voices in contemporary art: Former Senior curator at MoMA, the first Rosalie Solow Professor of Modern Art at the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU, lecturer at the CUNY Graduate Center, Bard Center for Curatorial Studies, Rhode Island School of Design, and Harvard University. He was the first American Director of the Venice Biennale (2007) and was Professor of Painting/Printmaking and for ten years Dean of the Yale School of Art, later the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Dean. An international lecturer and prolific author, he writes for Art in America, Artforum, Art Press, Frieze, Corriere della Sera; his numerous catalogs, articles, and books include Philip Guston, Chuck Close, and the award-winning Intimate Geometries: The Work and Life of Louise Bourgeois. Among his honors: Norton Family Foundation Curator Grant, honorary doctorates, a special AICA award for Distinguished Contribution to the Field of Art Criticism, an ICI Agnes Gund Curatorial Award, the Lawrence A. Fleischman Award for Scholarly Excellence from the Smithsonian Institution, and in France, Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des lettres.
